Myths and Misconceptions About Basmati Rice

Basmati Rice is Exclusively Grown in India and Pakistan

While India and Pakistan are the primary producers of Basmati rice, it is also cultivated in other countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and even parts of the Middle East. However, in 2016, the European Union granted Geographical Indication (GI) status to Basmati rice from India and Pakistan, which means that only rice grown in these specific regions can be labeled as “Basmati” in the EU. This ensures that the rice maintains its traditional quality and authenticity.
